New range of products balance low cost, operational efficiency and signal integrity across the RF infrastructure

RAYMOND, Maine – August 29, 2016Dielectric, a pioneer in purpose-engineered antennas and RF systems for TV and radio broadcasters, will come to The Radio Show at the Omni Nashville next month (September 21-23, Booth 11) with an expanded range of FM filters and combiners.  The Dielectric exhibit will specifically focus on three new products – two of which will be shown for the first time – that cover the gamut from low-power FM (LPFM) to high-power, multichannel hybrid FM and HD Radio installations.

As with all Dielectric antennas and filters/combiners, the three new products are designed, engineered and manufactured in-house, with specifications that align to both current and emerging customer needs. These specific products collectively address the need for high performance (including signal isolation), compact footprint and ease of installation in the RF facility.

“Dielectric remains committed to applying the most recent developments in filter and passive component technology to our TV and Radio products across RF systems and antennas,” said Keith Pelletier, Vice-President/General Manager, Dielectric. “Our latest filter and combiner products on display at The Radio Show demonstrate our shared goal with broadcasters for efficient and reliable operation at a reasonable price.”

Addressing FM stations from 1 to 20kW, Dielectric’s Manifold Combiner is a highly flexible multi-channel combiner that can be specified for use with any master antenna accommodating four or more channels. The combiner employs a manifold design that accelerates installation, simplifies maintenance and improves performance. These benefits are amplified in multichannel configurations when compared to conventional constant impedance designs that require more components, are difficult to assemble and maintain, and limit voltage safety margins.

Furthermore, Dielectric’s manifold design maintains consistent signal integrity and isolation for each channel with no distance-related signal loss or VSWR degradation. Dielectric recently proposed a 10-channel manifold solution to a large RF facility in New York City to support both FM and HD Radio signals, showcasing both its scalability to accommodate larger multichannel installations; as well as its quick installation and signal isolation benefits.

On the opposite end of the power spectrum, Dielectric will introduce a new line of LPFM bandpass filters for low-power FM stations. The design is based on Dielectric’s proven UHF Powerlite Series filters for low-power TV stations, featuring a simple layout to minimize parts, improve reliability and reduce initial outlay and ongoing operational costs. The ultra-compact size simplifies installations on floors, walls or ceilings, giving engineers several options for installation in space-challenged RF plants.

The field-tunable LPFM bandpass filters are ordered to each station’s specifications. This includes the specific number of resonators required to isolate each customer’s transmitter from adjacent signals, ensuring that broadcasters remain in FCC compliance by eliminating any intermodulation and signal mixing. Customers can opt for a cross-coupling design to ensure tighter signal isolation in cases with stringent signal rejection requirements.

Dielectric will also demonstrate the innovative field-tunable, FM two-channel combiner first introduced at the 2016 NAB Show in April. This product specializes in returning real estate and cash to the broadcaster by eliminating coaxial Tee junctions and associated coaxial line and elbows, all of which were traditionally used to multiplex two channels through the RF plant. The FM two-channel combiner also provides exceptional signal isolation and features a tunable common case design, the latter of which allows the station to use the same infrastructure (including filters and line) in the event of a frequency change.
